Daily Log: NR

May 5, 2017
Today I was finishing up the pages on the blog and touching up the formatting. I was also preparing for the team interview by reading and helping with our "What is an ROV" page. I learned more about what an ROV is and how they work. Our team will probably have to interview next class, and afterwards we will assign tasks more specifically and start assembling materials to begin experimenting soon.

I fixed the blog to be formatted more correctly and worked with everyone to prepare for the interview about the ROV afterwards. Once we were done with the interview, I went with my group to try out the example ROV. I learned more about how an ROV can move and how it feels to control one in the water.  Next time I'll help assemble materials and assign tasks.

Today I worked with my team to assign roles to everyone. I agreed to be in charge of the control box, so I started to watch videos to learn about soldering and wires. Then I worked on a practice board for the rest of the time to get some hands-on experience with soldering. Next class I'll be starting work on the real control box.

I began working on the real control box today. I need to start with the power wires. So far I've stripped the fuse wire and power wire, and then I soldered them together. It took me a while to get the connection right but I think I got it in the end. Next time I'll be waterproofing the connection and hopefully beginning the actual control box after I waterproof.

Today I touched up the solder connection on the power wires and waterproofed them. Then I was able to start working on the control board. So far I've attached six resistors onto the board, and I think the connections are pretty good! Next time I'll finish attaching the resistors and begin adding the LEDs.

This period, I continued soldering components onto the control board. I finished soldering resistors and attached the LEDs, capacitors, the diode, and the inductor. It all went pretty smoothly. Next time I'll keep soldering on the required parts, specifically the terminal blocks.

I've tried to work fast today to finish up soldering all the connections onto the control board. I finished all the soldering and connected the power wires, then I tested the control board to see if the LEDs light up correctly and it works! Next class I'll check in with the rest of the group to let them know the control box is ready and working.
